Blue Quad Hotel: A Innovation Fusion of Container Mobility and Hotel Luxury

The "Blue Quad Hotel," an innovative endeavor by a Japanese real estate group-Marimo Group, ingeniously employs shipping container architecture. Spanning 675m2, with 40 cozy accommodation units and a central service center, all accommodation units were placed on container trailer chassis. it seamlessly blends villa-style privacy and affordability, ideal for business travelers and tourists.

FOREMOST is proud to have contributed its expertise to the project by providing container structural design and customization services. Through precise structural calculations, we have crafted 45 lightweight 20HC container modules, combining compliance with road regulations with weather resistance. This adaptability allows for both long-term fixed usage and mobile applications.

CHALLENGES

Kurashiki City stands as a renowned tourist gem in Japan. Marimo Group's Blue Quad Hotel represents an exploration into a novel hospitality model, aiming to attract the growing influx of post-pandemic travelers and business individuals.
 
With the aim of optimizing cost-effectiveness, each individual shipping container is designed as a self-contained lodging unit. These units seamlessly integrate accommodations, bathrooms, living spaces, and storage, all while being capable of placement on trailers to create a mobile container hotel. This venture poses challenges in container load-bearing capacity and compact layout design.

FOREMOST Challenges:

  1. Structure Design: As a trailer-mounted container hotel, the weight of the container structure plus interior fittings, and facilities must meet the demands of Road Traffic Law while ensuring structural durability.
  2. Space Optimization: Efficiently integrating lodging, bathrooms, air conditioning, and storage within each container unit.
  3. Seamless Delivery: Delivering and constructing 45 containers on schedule, without additional costs, is a crucial consideration.

Solution

The Marimo Group ultimately opted for the container structural solution provided by FOREMOST Modular Building (FMB) due to our lightweight steel structural design, rigorous certified production control, high-quality standards, and attentive and detailed service.

Our design approach addressed the requirements of the Blue Quad Hotel project, blending creativity and practicality, ensuring a robust and dependable delivery.

  • In the design of a trailer-containerized hotel, we faced the dual task of balancing road regulations and functionality. As a steel structure construction, ensuring compliance with weight requirements of road regulations became our top priority.

    The “Blue Quad Hotel” project is a container hotel that ingeniously integrates the functions of a trailer hotel. Taking into account the weight of interior furnishings, we meticulously adhered to Japan's Road Traffic Law, ensuring that the combined weight of the container shell, insulation layer, and flooring remains within 3500kg. Through a long journey of calculations, extrapolations, and material optimizations, collaborated closely with both our architectural team and the client. Ultimately, our tenacity bore fruit as we honed the container enclosures' weight down to a precise 3499.98kg.

    Guided by strict structural calculations, we smoothly delivered 45 units of 20HC shipping container enclosures to Japan. This achievement not only ensures the project's compliance with road regulations but also guarantees the durability and practical aesthetics of the steel structure construction.
